UPDATE (4/13/2025): The legislative session ended without advancing the bill, according to local news.
We’re sad to see that Nevada lawmakers failed to take a stand against animal cruelty, and we hope this bill will be reintroduced in the future.

UPDATE (3/17/2025): “Reba’s Law,” or Assembly Bill 381, was recently introduced to the Nevada State Legislature, according to local news.

A bulldog named Reba tragically died after being sealed in a plastic bin and abandoned next to a dumpster in the scorching summer heat of Las Vegas.
People from around the globe voiced their outrage: ‘Justice for Reba’ events were held, petitions were created, flyers were handed out, and the website JusticeforReba.org was built to seek justice for this innocent dog.
After months of searching, two suspects were arrested in early December, but the potential sentence of one to four years in prison, or even probation, is too lenient.
Assemblywoman Melissa Hardy, who has proposed several animal welfare bills over the years, recently filed paperwork for a new bill that would “increase penalties for those who abuse, neglect, or kill animals.”
The creator of the website JusticeforReba.com suggested calling it Reba’s Bill, and Hardy agreed that would be fitting.
“They wanted it to be called Reba’s Bill and I would love that…this poor little dog was abused and eventually lost her life,” said Hardy.
No animal should have to endure the agony, helplessness, and terror that Reba must have experienced as she was sealed inside the container, abandoned, and slowly left to die.
Sign our petition to urge legislators pass Reba’s Bill and institute harsher penalties for people who commit animal cruelty in Nevada.
