A three-month-old kitten found in a parking lot suffering from severe burns is slowly recovering, thanks to a caring citizen and the Animal Rescue League of Boston (ARL).
Cynthia, the tricolored kitten, was found by an empathetic passerby who brought her home. When they realized how badly she was hurt, they brought her to ARL’s Boston Animal Care and Adoption Center. A veterinary examination uncovered lacerations and abrasions, along with second to third-degree burns on her ears, head, neck, and stomach.
“Our veterinary staff concluded that given the pattern and where the injuries were on her body that she was likely in the engine compartment of a vehicle,” ARL’s Mike DeFina told WCVB News. “And when the vehicle was turned on, she suffered those burns.”
As the weather gets colder, it’s common for homeless or outside cats to seek out a warm shelter. Too often, this becomes the engine area of someone’s car or truck. If this is how Cynthia was hurt, she’s fortunate, as many cats end up getting maimed or even killed when the engine starts. Many vets advise knocking on your car hood, hitting your horn, or even checking under the hood and above the tires before starting your car — simple steps that could save a life.
While Cynthia’s injuries required a great deal of medical care, ARL expects her to recover fully, and her traumatic story hasn’t dampened her cuddly disposition. The staff describes her as a sweet, happy kitten who loves to snuggle and hopes she will be ready to be adopted by a lucky family in December.
Lady Freethinker commends the good Samaritan who rescued her and ARL for giving Cynthia the best possible care to save her life. Thanks to their extraordinary compassion, Cynthia will soon be able to find her forever home.
