PETITION TARGET: State Attorney for the 20th Judicial Circuit, Amira D. Fox
In North Fort Myers, Florida, a two-year-old Australian cattle dog named Ruthie was allegedly dragged behind a pickup truck before it backed over her, leaving the animal with severe and agonizing injuries, according to local news.
After being confronted by a witness, the driver reportedly left Ruthie at his home while he went out to run errands and appeared to make no effort to provide the dog with medical assistance — even though her skin, flesh, and hair had been torn off her body.
Authorities later discovered blood throughout the vehicle’s interior and exterior, believed to belong to Ruthie.
“This case is horrifying,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said. “It’s disgusting. It’s disturbing, and when I watched the video, I lost sleep about this.”
We thank the sheriff for taking this case seriously, and the accused must be held fully accountable to help secure justice for Ruthie and deter future acts of cruelty.
Sign our petition urging the State Attorney to prosecute the individual responsible to the fullest extent of the law — including mandating intensive psychological intervention and a lifelong ban on having animals.
