An exhausted horse who endured an entire day stuck in an Irish river has been rescued by Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) and local rescue group, My Lovely Horse Rescue (MLHR), the Irish Independent reports.
Upon receiving a distressing message about a horse standing in a river with only his head and back above the water, ISPCA Inspector Jimmy McCormack went to investigate. Recognizing the horse’s dangerous situation and risk of hypothermia and shock, he swiftly called on volunteers for assistance. The seamless collaboration between ISPCA and MLHR, along with the help of a tractor and several volunteers, ensured the horse’s safe return to land.
It’s unclear how the animal ended up in the river, but his guardian was found and notified of the rescue. After a veterinarian determined the horse was healthy enough to make the journey, he was taken home to recover from his tiring ordeal.
“A follow-up visit was made the following morning to check-in on the horse after such a dramatic rescue,” the ISPCA wrote in a Facebook post. “Thankfully this was a great outcome and good to see him well on his way to making a full recovery, tucked into his cozy rug, in a nice warm stable.”
Lady Freethinker commends the ISPCA and MLHR for their swift and decisive action in rescuing the horse. Their immediate response, teamwork, and effective use of resources were crucial in ensuring the horse’s return to safety.
