PETITION TARGET: Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer
Blackey, a 9-week-old pit bull mix puppy, tragically died after his caretaker allegedly used dog food to lure him under a minivan and ran over his head in Santa Ana, California, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors say surveillance footage shows the woman placing the innocent puppy under the vehicle and setting food near the driver’s door. As Blackey approached the food, she slowly drove forward. Police said the driver appeared to stop on top of Blackey for about 15 seconds before driving away.
While the woman faces felony charges of animal cruelty and animal abuse by a caretaker, plus an enhancement for allegedly using the minivan as a weapon, authorities must treat this alleged act of cruelty with the seriousness it deserves.
Sign our petition urging Orange County prosecutors to pursue every charge supported by the evidence and, if there is a conviction, seek a prohibition on having animals.
