PETITION TARGET: Regional Animal Services of King County and the Kent Police Department
The day after 17-year-old Mittens got outside, only the front portion of his body was found beside his home, severed cleanly behind his front legs with no blood or loose fur nearby, according to local news. Three days after 11-year-old tabby Andy vanished, his head and collar were discovered in his yard. Another cat’s remains appeared in someone else’s yard, also without blood or signs of a struggle.
Disturbingly, these deaths may be part of a larger series of suspected intentional cat killings across King County in Washington. In just five weeks, a local nonprofit has identified eight incidents it considers confirmed and fears more will follow. Photos reviewed by the group’s founder reportedly show precisely cut remains arranged outside homes in ways inconsistent with animal attacks.
The possibility that someone is deliberately seeking out, killing, and dismembering cats, then leaving their body parts outside their guardians’ homes, is horrifying. Authorities must act quickly and use every available resource to determine who may be responsible before another innocent cat is harmed.
