With support from compassionate people like you, earlier this year Lady Freethinker provided a vital grant to help establish Bali Farm Sanctuary – a refuge for farmed animals rescued from the meat industry.

At the heart of the sanctuary is something many of these animals have never known before: the freedom of choice. The choice to rest or explore. To forage, root, bathe, play, or simply lie in the sun.

Since receiving Lady Freethinker’s support, Bali Farm Sanctuary has continued to grow – both as a refuge for animals in need and as a platform for changing the way people see farmed animals.

Do you remember Peter, the Bali Heritage Pig whose story we shared with you?

Peter was surrendered from a pig farm at just five weeks old, escaping a future in which every decision about his life would have been made for him. Today, everything is different.

He now has a rescued sister, Maggie, to share his life with. The pair sleep side by side each night in their newly renovated pig house and spend their days snuffling for treats, exploring, and wallowing in mud baths.

We hope that, in time, they forget the world they came from – a world in which they were born to be used and abused.

But we will never forget.

Today, Peter and Maggie are valued for who they are as individuals. They are loved. And they matter.

Eliz’s story could also have ended very differently. He was rescued from a chicken truck heading to a slaughterhouse, where he could easily have disappeared into the meat industry as just another chicken among countless others – his suffering unseen.

The scale of animal suffering can feel overwhelming. But every life saved is an entire life transformed.

Today, Eliz spends his days in the sanctuary’s newly renovated chicken and duck area alongside other rescued birds – including Willow, a chicken who seems to think she is, in fact, a duck.

Here, they can forage, explore, rest, bathe, form friendships, and choose how they spend their days. For animals whose lives were once defined by exploitation and an inevitable end at a slaughterhouse, these simple freedoms mean everything.

And thanks to supporters like you, Bali Farm Sanctuary will continue to offer refuge to those we can save – while helping change hearts and minds for the countless others we cannot.

Because when we see farmed animals for who they truly are – individuals deserving of compassion, freedom, and respect – we help create a kinder world for all.
