PETITION TARGET: New Kent Sheriff’s Office Animal Protection Unit

A sweet dog, later named Fred, was found in devastating condition alongside a highway in New Kent County, Virginia, with both of his front legs broken and more than a dozen BBs lodged in his body, according to local news.

The veterinarian who examined Fred reportedly believed the BB injuries were consistent with buckshot and that the fractures had been left untreated for about eight weeks — suggesting Fred may have endured prolonged suffering before finally being rescued.

The apparent pain and helplessness Fred may have endured—unable to walk for around two months, carrying numerous BBs embedded in his body, and allegedly left beside a highway in a life-threatening situation—is beyond heartbreaking.

Although it is not known who may have abandoned and harmed Fred, anyone responsible must be identified and held accountable to help ensure justice for him and prevent similar suffering in the future.

Sign our petition urging authorities to thoroughly investigate this case and find the person or persons responsible for leaving Fred in such a dire state.

The New Kent Sheriff’s Office Animal Protection Unit is asking anyone who recognizes Fred or has information about his case to call 804-966-9500 and ask to speak with an Animal Protection Deputy. Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Richmond Metro Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000 or submit a tip through its website, rvacrimestoppers.org.
