PETITION TARGET: Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable Sir Stephen Watson QPM
A doorbell camera reportedly shows a man and a woman luring Lola — a sweet tabby cat beloved by her family — from a driveway in Bury, England. The couple then seem to carry away the 16-year-old cat, according to Manchester Evening News and the Mirror. Three days later, Lola was found dead.
The footage appears to show the frightened cat struggling to get away. Lola’s guardian, Naseem Aktar, stated that Lola was mostly an indoor cat who stayed close to home, would not have known where she was if she ended up far from her house, and was like a child to her family. She also said Lola was non-vocal and could not make noise as she struggled to get away.
Lola was rushed to a veterinarian after she was found under a car outside St Luke’s C of E Primary School, but her guardian was told that Lola had died from dehydration.
Greater Manchester Police reportedly said officers were aware of the alleged cat theft, had exhausted all lines of inquiry, and closed the case because of insufficient evidence.
Lola’s guardian shared her story in the hope that it could help protect other cats from the same heartbreak. LFT shares that hope and urges authorities to give Lola’s case the renewed attention it deserves.
Sign our petition urging Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable Sir Stephen Watson QPM to ensure Lola’s case receives a renewed and thorough review under all applicable laws, including the Pet Abduction Act 2024. If the evidence supports charges, any responsible person must be held accountable. Lola deserves justice, and other cats and families deserve protection from the same heartbreak.
