A tiny fawn is safe after an intense rescue during flash flooding in Indiana. Firefighters from the Madison Township Fire Department had responded to a call about a vehicle stranded on a flooded road when they heard the cries of a baby deer being carried downstream in the fast-moving water nearby.

With the driver already able to get to shore without assistance, the crew turned its attention to the terrified young animal. Harrowing (and ultimately heartening) footage shared from the scene shows Captain Joe Sinclair in full water rescue gear, attached to a safety line, entering the muddy floodwaters and carrying the fawn back to land.

Medics cared for the baby deer at the scene before the fawn was transferred to a local wildlife rescue group. It’s a story of bravery, where a small life was saved in the middle of chaos, and a reminder that compassion can reach even the most harrowing corners of a storm.
