A tiny raccoon is safe after a frightening ordeal stuck alone in a storm drain in Colorado Springs. After heavy weather moved through the area, firefighters responded to reports of a distressed baby raccoon trapped in the drain and worked to bring the young animal to safety.
The raccoon kit had reportedly been found by concerned people nearby, unable to help on their own. So they called for assistance; when rescuers from the fire department arrived, they carefully retrieved the young raccoon from the drain, turning what could have been a tragic outcome into a moment of relief.
After the rescue, the department said the little critter got the full firehouse treatment, settling into an improvised nursery with a blanket, a teddy bear, and even a “trash can crib.” The department also thanked Teller County Regional Animal Shelter and Catamount Wildlife Center for helping care for the baby raccoon.
This rescue is a heartening reminder that even amid the rush of daily emergencies, compassion for vulnerable animals still matters — and sometimes makes all the difference.
