A three‑month‑old bald eagle was saved from peril thanks to quick action and teamwork from local first responders in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Authorities responded after the eaglet fell from their nest, and found the bird with a fishing hook lodged in their beak. Crews worked carefully to remove the hook and free the young eagle from immediate harm, eventually returning them to their nest with their mother nearby.

This rescue is a sad reminder that discarded or loose fishing gear can seriously injure wildlife. Abandoned and lost fishing gear (often called “ghost gear”) injures or kills hundreds of thousands of animals annually.

Lady Freethinker thanks all who helped rescue this vulnerable eaglet and return the young bird to their family. When first responders work together, showing compassion for all beings, even a fallen eagle can get a helping hand.
