A stray dog who spent days wandering with a plastic bucket stuck over his head — unable to see, eat, or drinkhas been safely rescued in Alabama.

The dog, now named Buck, was found in Winston County after concerned residents shared images of him online, prompting a coordinated search effort. Local volunteers, including Kaleb Estill and Eric Bowman, ultimately located Buck and carefully removed the bucket, freeing him from the life‑threatening obstruction.

Throughout the ordeal, amazingly, Buck wasn’t alone. Another stray dog, now called Milo, stayed by his side and was seen helping him as he struggled to navigate without vision. Estill said Milo initially acted aggressively with people trying to approach, not realizing they were there to help his friend.

Buck is now receiving veterinary care for sinus and ear infections believed to be linked to the prolonged entrapment, while Milo is being treated for a separate hip injury and cuts. Rescuers say the bonded pair will remain together and are expected to be placed for adoption once they recover.

Cases like Buck’s underscore the dangers that discarded containers pose to dogs and wildlife, who may get their heads stuck while searching for food and then be unable to eat, drink, or escape predators. It’s recommended to cut or crush containers before disposal and secure trash to help prevent similar incidents.

Lady Freethinker is grateful to the compassionate residents, volunteers, and veterinarians who came together to save Buck and Milo. It’s a powerful reminder that when people choose to act, we can turn a terrifying situation into a second chance for animals who might otherwise be forgotten.
