PETITION TARGET: New Kent County Sheriff’s Office Animal Protection Unit
A pregnant dog named Maude in New Kent County, Virginia, is in critical condition after being discovered with a wire tightly wrapped around her neck, leaving her head severely swollen and restricting her breathing, according to a Facebook post by the New Kent County Sheriff’s Office Animal Protection Unit.
Maude was rushed to an emergency veterinary hospital for treatment, where she received life-saving care after the wire — which became embedded in her flesh — was removed. She has not yet given birth, and veterinarians are monitoring her condition to determine whether she will deliver naturally or require a c-section.
The sheriff’s office believes Maude was caught in a coyote trap, which operates like a zip-tie, tightening without releasing.
Disturbingly, the veterinarian in charge of her care thinks the wire was intentionally placed around her neck.
This badly wounded dog, who is believed to have had the cable around her neck for some time, deserves justice. Authorities must act swiftly to ensure whoever might have done this is held accountable.
Sign our petition urging the New Kent County Sheriff’s Office Animal Protection Unit to thoroughly investigate this case and identify the person or persons responsible for endangering the lives of Maude and her puppy.
