PETITION TARGET: Romania’s Chamber of Deputies

Across Romania, stray dogs can be killed simply because no one comes forward to claim or adopt them. In one recent tragic case, around 200 dogs at a single shelter were slated to be put down, according to Știrile Pro TV.

Newly introduced legislation, however, would both ban this cruel practice and strengthen several of Romania’s animal-protection policies.

If enacted, the proposal would not only save dogs from being needlessly executed but also establish a national registry of convicted animal abusers, increase support and oversight for shelters, and give law enforcement more resources to handle cruelty cases.

In addition, it would restrict repeat offenders from having animals and allow police to enter private property without a warrant if animals are believed to be in danger.

These reforms could save countless animals from suffering and death, and at the same time hold abusers accountable.

Sign our petition urging lawmakers in Romania to back this legislation to help strengthen enforcement, oversight, and protections for animals nationwide.
