PETITION TARGET: Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman
Over 100 dogs and puppies were rescued from squalid conditions inside a Raleigh, North Carolina, home, where they were reportedly trapped in crowded cages that reached the ceiling or left to wander in cramped, filthy spaces, according to ABC News.
Many were coated in their own waste, underfed, and suffering from matted fur, skin conditions, and dental problems — all signs of prolonged neglect in what appeared to be a puppy mill.
In addition to the dogs, 21 chickens were surrendered from the property and were allegedly neglected as well.
A woman has been arrested in connection with the case and faces six misdemeanor animal cruelty charges.
This heartbreaking situation highlights the urgent need to crack down on cruelty and neglect. No animal should be forced to live in such horrific conditions.
Sign our petition urging the Wake County District Attorney to prosecute the individual responsible to the fullest extent of the law — including mandating intensive psychological intervention and a lifelong ban on having animals.
UPDATE (10/6/2025): The accused pled guilty and received two consecutive 45-day jail sentences, which were suspended in favor of 36 months of supervised probation. She is also prohibited from possessing animals other than the two birds she already has, according to Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman.
While we are glad the perpetrator has been convicted, we’re sad to see that the penalties don’t reflect the severity of neglect inflicted on these innocent dogs and chickens.
Lady Freethinker thanks the 36,000+ individuals who signed our petition demanding justice for these animals.
