Ester — a dog who was callously thrown over a six-foot-tall fence into the yard of the Cincinnati Animal CARE shelter — is enjoying her happily ever after with the family who adopted her, Local 12 News reported.
Shelter staff were shocked to see how Ester was treated when they watched the surveillance video of the defenseless dog being dumped. Fortunately, even though she landed hard on her back, she didn’t have any serious physical injuries.
“Our team rushed into action as soon as this was discovered and immediately took the dog to our intake area for evaluation,” the rescue’s Senior Communications Manager, Lisa Colina Franklin, wrote on Facebook. “Though she displayed high fear, stress, and anxiety, she never once showed any aggression and was easily taken to a holding kennel where she could be further evaluated by our medical team.”
The staff noted that she was underweight and had irritated skin. She also seemed afraid to go inside the shelter.
But Ester proved resilient — and her story had a happy ending. She immediately had a list of potential adoptees looking to meet her, and she was adopted as soon as she became available. While the rescue was ecstatic that Ester had a happy, loving new home to go to, it also reminded people that many more dogs and cats were waiting for their forever homes.
“While the support for her is nothing short of amazing, because she deserves the world, please realize, Ester, though her story is incredibly heartbreaking, is not the only animal in our care that can benefit from the love, protection, and care a good human can provide,” Colina Franklin wrote. “We have over 500 dogs and over 200 cats in our care right now. More than 300 dogs are onsite between our TWO locations, and just over 200 are currently in foster care.”
Lady Freethinker applauds Ester’s new guardian for seeing a dog that deserved so much more than she was given and decided to give her a loving home and a family. And to Cincinnati Animal CARE and its staff, who are responsible for caring for all these animals waiting to be adopted.
Ester’s story is a great reminder to please visit your local shelter if you’re looking for an animal companion to join your family. There are plenty of loving, beautiful animals just like Ester waiting to be your new best friend.
