PETITION TARGET: Chester County District Attorney

Update: (11/14/2024) Curtis Bacon, 34, of Coatesville, pled guilty to Aggravated Cruelty to Animals on November 8, 2024, and received a sentence of 13-60 months, the Chester County District Attorney’s Office, Brandywine Valley SPCA and Brandywine Valley SPCA Animal Protective Services Unit announced.

In addition, officials said Bacon was sentenced to pay restitution to the SPCA for the veterinary care of Ava and is prohibited from possessing animals or pets in the future.

Ava was suffering from extreme emaciation, multiple visible wounds, and a severed back leg that will require surgical amputation.

After getting a tip about a dog crying out, police found the dog in severe pain when they arrived at the South Coatesville, PA home, according to news.

She was rushed to VRC Specialty Hospital to receive immediate medical care. After an examination, it was clear Ava had many old fractures in her ribs and leg, damage to her lungs, multiple broken teeth, and a severe eye injury — likely all from long-term abuse, according to Brandywine Valley SPCA (BVSPCA).

“It’s a miracle Ava survived with the type of injuries she has sustained,” Adam Lamb, BVSPCA chief executive officer, said. “It’s sickening to think of the trauma she endured.”

Despite all odds, Ava has made a significant recovery and is eating well while she receives treatment for her injuries.

No dog deserves to endure severe beatings and abuse.

A man has been arrested and faces four felony counts of aggravated cruelty and four misdemeanor counts of cruelty and neglect, according to NBC.

Sign our petition to urge the Chester County District Attorney’s Office to prosecute the individual(s) responsible for this heinous abuse to the fullest extent of the law, including a lifelong ban on owning animals.
