PETITION TARGET: Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi
UPDATE (3/31/2023): This bill did not receive a vote before the legislative session ended. We will continue to advocate for kangaroos in the U.S. and abroad.

Commercial shooters kill more than two million wild kangaroos every year just so their body parts can be used to make soccer shoes, or “cleats,” said U.S Rep. Salud Carbajal, while introducing new legislation for the animals’ protection.
The kangaroo skin industry facilities the world’s largest commercial slaughter of land-based wildlife, and major athletic shoe companies are profiting from the cruelty.
Kangaroo skin — known as “k-leather” — factors into dozens of models of cleats sold right now throughout the United States by Nike, Puma, ADIDAS, New Balance, and others, according to the Center for a Humane Economy.
California is currently the only U.S. state to outlaw the sale of kangaroo skin. But now, Salud and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick have introduced the Kangaroo Protection Act to Congress to end this gruesome industry for good. The Act, if passed, would ban the sale of all kangaroo body parts in the United States.
There are better, more cost effective, and cruelty-free alternatives to “k-leather.” It’s time to end the needless slaughter of millions of kangaroos.
