An 84-year-old woman who went missing for several days in Texas was found safe — with her faithful retriever Maximus, a newly adopted rescue, right by her side.

A community resident found Pearl Radcliffe, an elder who reportedly suffers from memory loss and dementia, unconscious on a sidewalk two days after Radcliffe’s family reported her missing.  During that time, Pearl’s young pup, adopted just nine days previously, made sure to not wander away, according to news reports.

“GREAT NEWS!” Texas EquuSearch posted onFacebook. “Ms. Pearl and Maximus have been found safe by a member of the community! Family is en-route to reunite, but as always, we appreciate you having shared her post and photos! Maximus was by her side!”

Maximus made sure Pearl was never alone during her disappearance, People magazine also reported.

Pearl said she didn’t remember much about what happened to her, according to People. Fortunately, loyal Maximus kept a watchful eye.

“Even being with her only a few days, the pup was so loyal — he stayed by her side the entire time,” a KHOU 11 reporter Tweeted. “The family is picking him up from animal control tomorrow, and they’re never letting him go!”

The reporter also wrote the family also is trying to find “more ways to keep (Pearl) safe.”

We’re overjoyed that this precious dog has found a loving family who recognizes his importance and also that both he and his guardian are safe! Rescue dogs make incredible companion animals, and we encourage everyone to adopt instead of shop for a canine pal!
