PETITION TARGET: Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office
More than 350 severely malnourished and dehydrated birds were found inside a Baltimore pet shop. Some had traumatic wing and leg injuries and deformities. Others had respiratory problems or had plucked out their own feathers. Several birds were reportedly in such bad condition they had to be euthanized, according to local news.
The shop owner is facing dozens of charges, including nine felonies, but accountability is crucial to ensuring other birds don’t suffer the same fate.
Birds are born to fly — not to spend their lives trapped in cages for human profit. They are highly intelligent, social animals who suffer immensely when deprived of their natural behaviors. Some become so distressed they self-mutilate. Still, the pet bird industry puts profits before animal welfare.
Sign our petition urging the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office to prosecute the shop owner to the fullest extent of the law for the alleged neglect and seek a ban on having animals to protect birds from further suffering.
