Australia’s bats are going through a very difficult time. With temperatures reaching 111 degrees Fahrenheit (44 degrees Celsius) throughout the country, bat populations are declining due to the extreme weather. Bats as a species cannot tolerate high heat and  are very susceptible to heatstroke. This is tragically causing entire colonies to perish, resulting in baby bats left orphaned and helpless.

Luckily, the wonderful folks at the Bat Conservation and Rescue Society know exactly what to do. They jump into action and rescue the surviving babies who would otherwise face certain death without their mothers. A team of volunteers takes care of the tiny babies until they’re old enough to be released back into the wild. The orphans need to go through months of rehabilitation before they can survive on their own.

As you can see in the video above, the tiny cuties are taken care of just like human babies. They are cuddled and bottle-fed around the clock, and even wrapped up in blankets like adorable mini burritos! Taking care of orphaned baby bats is no easy task, but the staff and volunteers at the rescue are dedicated to the cause.

The baby bats look absolutely adorable cuddled up in their blankets for nap time. Hopefully, they grow up big and strong and can make their return back to the wild. It’s important to remember that animals are often the first to feel the impacts of climate change, and we must do more to try and help them.
