When a bitter-cold polar vortex descended upon the American Midwest late last month, one Kalispell, Montana family’s cat became trapped in a snowbank and almost didn’t survive.

After discovering their beloved Fluffy unconscious, matted with chunks of snow, and nearly frozen solid, the family rushed her to a local animal clinic. Her temperature was so low, it wouldn’t register on a thermometer.

Two hours later, after warm water and blankets had failed to raise Fluffy’s temperature, she was transferred to an emergency room.

Finally, after a few more hours, Fluffy’s condition began to improve. She made a full recovery and returned home with her family, who wisely decided that from now on, she’ll remain indoors.

This story reminds us to keep a close eye on our pets and to accompany them at all times if they must go outdoors, especially in frigid winter weather.
