One police officer’s body cam captured some unexpectedly harrowing footage recently in North Kansas City, Missouri.

While on patrol on the busy Interstate 29 shortly before Christmas, Officer Jason Smith noticed a kitten stranded on a concrete median between lanes and pulled over to help her to safety.

He called for backup, in case the kitten tried running into traffic.

Luckily, Smith retrieved the friendly but scared kitten without much struggle.

Once inside the patrol car, Smith’s cute new friend accidentally set off the police siren. Oops! But she quickly became comfortable and enjoyed the pets and attention she received.

Smith took the kitten to an animal shelter, but decided shortly thereafter to adopt her. She’s been named Bella and has reportedly settled in happily at her forever home!
