Remember the Alamo? Apparently, newly elected Texas Governor Gregg Abbott relives it every day. But instead of defending the state from any real threat, Abbott has now asked the State Guard to defend Texas from none other than the U.S. military.

Yes, you read that right.

You see, Texas and six other states were selected to host U.S. military training exercises that will help soldiers prepare for various battle situations. It’s a fairly common practice. None of the governors in the other six states blinked en eye when asked to help their country’s service men and women.

But those states don’t have Governor Abbott, or the other so-called “patriots” who’ve been frantically spreading conspiracy theories over conservative websites and social media. These characters believe the exercises are just a cover for what’s really going on – a hostile takeover by the federal government, led by none other than President Obama.

“It is important that Texans know their safety, constitutional rights, private property rights and civil liberties will not be infringed upon,” Abbott wrote in a statement. He has ordered the State Guard to follow and continuously monitor the U.S. operations when they start in July, and to report back to him so he can keep the fine people of the Lone Star state secure.

About 200 of these conspiracy theorists got together in rural Bastrop County recently, where they grilled a U.S. Army commander: Is the government coming to take away their guns? Are they going to implement martial law? Are Walmarts in West Texas really being turned into FEMA processing camps for political prisoners?

And just think…this is only the beginning of Abbott’s first term.
