PETITION TARGET: District Attorney Melinda Katz
A 10-week-old Boston terrier named Epsy reportedly suffered repeated beatings, broken ribs, and head trauma over two months at the hands of her owner in Queens, New York, before she died, according to news reports.
The last time the sweet dog ended up at an animal hospital, her injuries were so severe that she couldn’t stand or walk, and veterinarians had to euthanize her. A necropsy showed 21 of her 26 ribs had been broken and she had a severe head injury and suffered from blunt force trauma.
Previously, the poor terrier had to undergo treatment for a torn toenail, broken blood vessel in the eye, and head bruises, according to news reports.
Authorities have charged Epsy’s owner, Paul Verite, with multiple counts of animal cruelty. Verite has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is out on bail to await further court proceedings. If convicted, he faces a maximum of two years in prison.
Sign our petition urging District Attorney Melinda Katz to treat this case with the severity it deserves, including pushing for maximum accountability and a ban on owning and being around animals in any setting for the person responsible for so brutally and repeatedly harming Epsy.
