When Sara Durbin returned to her West Monroe, LA home Thursday, she found the unthinkable. Her tiny Yorkie, Bitty Boo, had a bloody face and was missing large patches of fur. The dog's eyes were so swollen and damaged, he may never recover.
The dog sitter -- a "friend" named Samuel Smith -- claimed the dog had escaped and returned home with the injuries. But when Sara looked into the freezer, she saw blood and clumps of hair. Soon, Smith confessed to beating Bitty Boo, spraying him with hot water and locking him in the freezer. He tried to brush off these horrific acts, saying he was "just messing" with the helpless animal.
Smith is charged with one count of aggravated animal cruelty. This is a good start, but it is now crucial that prosecutors treat this case with the severity it deserves, to send a message that such abuse to innocent animals will not be tolerated.
Sign the petition to urge Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry to ensure that justice is served in this horrifying case of cruelty, and see that Smith is never allowed to keep or look after an animal again for the rest of his life. No more dogs must suffer at his hands.
