In 2014, your company sold enough single-serving coffee pods to circle the Earth more than 12 times. Most of these Keurig K-Cups are sitting in landfills right now, leaching toxic plastic chemicals like polystyrene into the environment.

K-Cups are true eco-disasters that are making the planet less livable for humans and other animals.  And your company has yet to present a meaningful solution. You have announced plans to make all K-Cups recyclable in 2020 – but that's five years away.

Worse, the EPA estimates that only about 9 percent of total plastic waste is recycled. Your plan is not a sustainable alternative to the current system, because most K-Cups will still end up in landfills, where they will not biodegrade.

I urge Keurig to make all K-Cups biodegradable to minimize destruction to the planet. Plastic-free, biodegradable options are already on the market, so we know the technology exists.

It's time to stop this frivolous waste. Keurig, do the responsible thing and make all of your K-Cup pods biodegradable as soon as possible.
