It makes sense that the first city to operate a Dog Bus Tour would be London, as its monarch has shared her residency with over 30 Corgis during her reign. Beyond Queen Elizabeth, the city seems to be growing more dog-friendly by the minute. And now that canines are welcome at many hotels and even some stores, shouldn’t they be able to enjoy a nice double-decker bus ride?
The More Th>n insurance company of the United Kingdom has organized a fun and free bus outing for pooches and their people to celebrate the introduction of their new monthly box subscription, called Doggyssenti>ls. The K9 “Routemaster” bus tour honors London’s history of dog culture.
“Wanna go for a ride?” now includes hanging out with a bunch of other dogs in a cozy bus. Their guardians are entertained by an hour-long presentation of the history of dogs in London that includes information about the Queen Mum’s pups, Winston Churchill’s poodle, Rufus, Europe’s largest collection of dog paintings, ministerial dogs of Downing Street, and London’s only dog cemetery.
The tour route winds from Downing Street to the Houses of Parliament. Riders received a map of dog-friendly establishments, and also are presented with a travel version of the box, including treats and balls.
The pooches enjoy a brief frolic in Hyde Park, Green Park, and Kensington Palace Gardens. The bus also stops at some pet-friendly shops, pubs, bars, and restaurants.
If the maiden voyages of the K9 Buses are popular, another tour may be scheduled in spring or summer.
