Dog Found with Arrow Through Head May be Victim of Dog Meat Trade

Nobody knows exactly how this stray black dog ended up with an arrow pierced right through his head. But thankfully the dog, who was found wandering around the train station at Beijing’s 798 Arts District, was saved by good samaritans and is now recovering from his injury. Some speculate the dog, nicknamed “Big Black,” was a victim of the notorious dog meat industry. Illegal dog traders sometimes shoot the animals with crossbows or poison darts, then collect them and transport them to horrific dog slaughterhouses. But nobody knows for certain. Although Big Black was a stray, a local barista had taken to...

When the owners of Henry, a one-year-old Dachshund, dropped their puppy off at PetSmart in San Mateo, California, they expected nothing more than a routine grooming. But sadly, Henry would never make it home. He died in the care of dog groomer Juan Zarate, 38, who has now been arrested on felony charges. (Note: The image above is not Henry, but a different Dachshund) According to San Francisco 7 News, Henry began having trouble breathing and started bleeding from the mouth. Then, the dog suddenly died. A PetSmart veterinarian tried to treat Henry, but there was nothing they could do....

Pit Bull Sees Reflection for First Time Ever, Just HAS to Sing About It

Lola the pit bull puppy got a glimpse of her own reflection for the first time ever — and the adorable dog was so excited about the view, she broke out into song. And while Lola may not be nominated for a Grammy anytime soon, her enthusiasm is utterly infectious. The cooing, barking and warbling take on a surprisingly melodic tone, as you can see in the video below. Does Lola know that it’s her own pretty mug in the bathroom mirror? Or does she think it’s another pit bull pup, who oddly has no scent? According to National Geographic, dogs are highly...

Severely Abused Pit Bull Puppies Cling Together for Comfort in ER Waiting Room

Three pit bulls just 4 months old were seized and handed over to the The Washington Animal Rescue League last month in Washington, DC. This morning, their owner, Brenda Bullock, was arrested on three counts of animal cruelty. The above images show the deteriorated state of the dogs, who were weak and suffered from severe mange. The three dogs — named Chase, Klondike and Haagen Dazs — had to be neglected for months to show such drastic health issues, according to veterinarians. Thankfully the puppies were rushed to emergency veterinary care after their rescue, where Klondike and Haagen Dazs clung together on the...

Rescue Dog Brazenly Stolen at Adoption Event

With hopes that the dogs would be adopted into loving families, Pups of Texas Rescue held an adoption event last week in Kingwood, Texas. Among the animals was 2 ½-year-old Brindle, a pit bull mix described as affectionate and full of life. When a Caucasian female around the age of 18 or 19 wanted to take Brindle for a walk to see if they were a “match,” it was happily granted. But minutes later, the woman sprinted to her car, jumped in with Brindle in her arms and sped away. “Please bring her back home,” was the plea from Jessica...

Paralyzed Dog Left Outside Shelter with Desperate Note

Workers at the Tampa Bay Humane Society were surprised and saddened to show up at the shelter on Tuesday morning and find a dog in a crate left on their doorstep. The most heartbreaking part? The paralyzed dog came with a desperate note from her owner: “Please help my Genie. Genie (her name) is paralyzed from I believe her hips to her hind legs. I tried to manage her pain with medication from her vet but they only ease her pain and she needs surgery. I cannot afford so I ask that the Animal Health Center heal her and find her a loving forever home. Thank you.” The shelter posted the note, along with an image of Genie, on their Facebook page just after 7am Eastern time. They promised to do their best to make Genie well again, to help her emotionally  and to find her a new home. Some commenters wondered why the owner hadn’t approached the shelter for help in person, so the dog would not have be separated from a seemingly caring home. It’s unclear if the shelter would have offered help had they done so, but thankfully shelter staff is willing to tend to Genie any way they can right now....
