This Man Has Saved an Entire Village of Cats

By Brianna Acuesta,  first published on True Activist He calls his supporters his ‘angels.’ Credit: Uli Sharbinie In the beginning, Uli Sharbinie, a cat-lover living in Indonesia, was faced with the hard truth: rescuing all of the cats in his village was an impossible task. As the number of stray cats grew because they reproduced rapidly, causing his neighbors to deem them a nuisance and kill them in scores, Uli felt helpless but continued to feed them here and there, sometimes giving them natural remedies if they were sick. It wasn’t until Kristen Connelly, a woman in Oxnard, CA, came...

Video – Mama Cat and Kittens Rescued From 60-Foot Drainpipe

This may be one of the most epic cat rescues of all time. When Hope for Paws first arrived on the scene after receiving a call about a cat in trouble, they were not prepared for what they found — a mama cat and her kittens, stuck down a 60-foot drainpipe. The situation was so tricky, the rescue had to be temporarily delayed while rescuers searched for a solution. The next day, the rescue team returned with some serious equipment. First, they rigged a camera and flashlight to a remote-control car on a rope so they could get a better look...

New Hope! Dog Meat May Be Banned For Yulin Dog Meat Festival

Stolen. Captured. Caged. Skinned. Cooked. Eaten. This is a dog’s unfortunate fate at the annual Lychee and Dog Meat Festival in Yulin, China during the summer solstice — a celebration that some believe helps to repel summer heat and bring good luck. Thankfully, a ban is reportedly imminent in efforts to discontinue the infamous and inhumane mass slaughtering of animals. Dogs are not the only meal spotted on the menu at the festival that started in 2010. Cats are killed and eaten, too. However, according to National Geographic, Chinese activists are unsure if the ban will cover cats. Thousands of cats and dogs are...

Cat, Dog, and Rat Best Friends Refuse to be Separated

An unlikely trio of animals was adopted after refusing to be separated at a Wisconsin animal shelter. Sasha the dog, Jack the cat and Tweaks the rat, known as the “Rat Pack,” were adopted together by Kathy Berens and her daughter on April 7th. The previous owners of the Rat Pack had to move and were unable to bring the trio along with them. They brought the gang to the Oshkosh Area Humane Society (OAHS) on March 1st, and mentioned that the animals had a special bond. After the 3 arrived at OAHS, they needed to be medically examined....

Study: Your Cat Likes You More than You Think

This month, students from Oregon State and Monmouth Universities conducted a study on cats’ behavioral reactions to certain stimuli, and concluded that our feline friends prefer human interaction over meals. Surprised? You’re probably not alone. For those of us who are familiar with the self-centered reputation of cats—seeming to only want our attention on their terms, perhaps when they want to eat, be pampered, or play—the results from this study may be jaw dropping. The team of researchers indicated that “it is still common belief that cats are not especially sociable or trainable. This disconnect may be due, in part,...
