Dora and her brother Felix were born with a rare condition in which they literally had no eyelids. As uncomfortable as this may sound, pain was the least of their worries – if left untreated, the siblings were doomed to lose their eyesight forever.

Homeless and wandering the streets of Australia, the pair — just 5 weeks old at the time — had almost no hope of survival, let alone finding a loving home.

But luckily for this feline duo, some kindhearted people found them and brought them to RSPCA’s Blue Mountains shelter. It was there that rescuers discovered the reason for the cats’ odd facial features — their eyes could not close due to lack of eyelids.

Can you imagine not being able to blink for your entire life?

Soon, the RSPCA brought Dora and Felix to the Eye Clinic for Animals, where they received surgery that would change their lives for the better. In an extensive procedure, the surgeon removed tissue from their mouths and transplanted it to sculpt functional eyelids.

As you can see, the cats look grateful to have normal eyes — and now, they will be spared from blindness.

It must feel good to finally be able to squint.

Unfortunately though, the cats’ happy ending has not been fully realized yet. The pair are still awaiting adoption at the RSPCA’s Blue Mountains Branch in S. Wales. Anyone interested in adopting the two sweet kittens can click here for more information (or to learn about other adoptable animals).

May Dora and Felix find their forever home soon.
