Although veganism’s recent surge has mainly affected a younger population, people of all ages are adopting the lifestyle — including Anne Fraser, a woman who became vegan just three weeks before her 96th birthday.

An advocate for peace and love, and a yoga teacher at her local community center, Anne realized after watching the documentary What the Health? that she could do more to make the world a better place.

“I’ve always ended all my classes with the meta prayer, ‘May all beings be happy and free’ and after becoming vegan, and learning how inhumane and cruel our animal agriculture system is, I realized that I wasn’t doing my part,” she said. “I was praying for all animals to be happy and free, but not practicing it by still consuming animal products.”

With the help of her vegan granddaughter, Anne made the switch. She has been loving it ever since. “Now when I say [the meta] prayer, it has a deeper meaning to me.”

In addition to protecting animals and the earth, Anne is also helping herself. Diagnosed with AFib, or irregular heartbeat, Anne was put on medication that made her feel unwell. Now, after making the switch to a plant-based diet, Anne’s heart is strong and healthy.

Anne feels as vibrant and active as ever, and continues to nurture a passion to inspire her fellow seniors to take care of their bodies. Through her Monday yoga classes, she cultivates a safe and fun environment for others to get moving!
